SpecMeter is designed to preserve the source value, normalize only genuinely comparable fields and describe tradeoffs without inventing performance claims.

1. Source boundary

Production product facts are intended to come from permitted Amazon API resources only. The prototype uses clearly labeled fictional data.

2. Exact product identity

Each value is intended to remain attached to the exact product identifier and variation represented by the outbound link.

3. Deterministic normalization

Unit conversions and meter positions use documented software rules rather than generative guesses or hidden editorial adjustments.

4. Neutral interpretation

Higher, lower and preference-dependent fields receive different language. A larger value is never automatically called better.

5. Missing stays missing

An unavailable field receives an explicit state. It is not filled from scraping, reviews, another variant or an AI prediction.

6. Index only useful pages

A pair needs sufficient shared fields, meaningful differences, current data and internal context before it can become indexable.

One scale for both products

For a numeric field, both values are placed on the same category-specific domain. A simple normalized position can be expressed as:

position = clamp((value - domain minimum) / (domain maximum - domain minimum), 0, 1)

The exact value remains printed beside the bar. The visual does not change the underlying number and does not imply a statistical confidence level.

Directional rules

Higher, lower and neutral are different

  • Lower-directional: fields such as weight or upfront price can support language like lighter or lower cost in a defined context.
  • Higher-directional: fields such as listed storage can support more or higher, while still avoiding complete performance claims.
  • Neutral: fields such as screen size or driver size describe a choice and do not receive a default winner.
Personal fit

The customer chooses the weights

The prototype fit score accepts only named, comparable numeric factors. Customers assign importance from zero to ten. Each product's normalized field value is multiplied by that user-selected weight, then divided by the total active weight.

The result is labeled as a fit for selected priorities. It does not represent laboratory performance, reliability, safety, value over time or a universal product ranking.

Automation should be selective

A production comparison is intended to remain noindex until it has enough shared fields, at least a few meaningful differences, current source snapshots, valid product destinations, one canonical pair URL and useful internal links.

This approach lets the site answer direct comparison requests without asking search engines to index every mathematical product combination.
